1 in 3 Kids With Asthma Don't Get a Flu Shot
Nearly a third of parents whose children have asthma are not
getting them vaccinated against the flu, a researcher said here.
And a key reason for the decision is fear of the vaccine's side
effects, including an unfounded fear that the vaccine will
transmit the disease, according to Toby Lewis, MD, of C.S. Mott
Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich.
"These parents perceive something negative about the
vaccine" that outweighs the risk of an asthma exacerbation for
the child, Lewis told reporters here at the annual meeting of the
American Thoracic Society.
